We couldn't resist sharing this standout moment: a couple smartly syncing their “I dos” with the eclipse, turning their wedding into a spectacle of nature and love. They expertly planned their ceremony to say vows with the eclipse's start and enjoyed champagne as darkness peaked.

This breathtaking photo, merging two moments 25 minutes apart during the eclipse, comes courtesy of some quick thinking and creativity. Despite a bit of drama when the intense sunlight challenged the photographer's gear, Brian Clark captured this incredible shot.

Kudos to Brian for preserving this once-in-a-lifetime event!

Utterly Amazing Safari Wedding in Zimbabwe (featuring Elephants!) https://bridalmusings.com/55568/utterly-amazing-safari-wedding-zimbabwe/ https://bridalmusings.com/55568/utterly-amazing-safari-wedding-zimbabwe/#comments Mon, 19 May 2014 08:10:59 +0000 http://bridalmusings.com/?p=55568 Today's wedding is incredible.

Really incredible.

Photographed by the wonderful Amy Caroline Photography, when we first clapped eyes on these nuptials, we knew they were something special.

Along with a beautiful bride, a handsome groom, gorgeous DIY details and stunning scenery, there's also majestic elephants, cute monkeys, and even a cameo from a giraffe.

Leah and Philip's safari wedding in Zimbabwe is as breath-taking as they come. From a beautiful outdoor ceremony under a fig tree in the bush, to a gorgeous marquee reception filled with rustic features, these fabulous photographs capture every  gorgeous detail.

We'll never get sick of wedding dresses and centrepieces, but we can't help but be a little beside ourselves when a wedding is stripped back and simplified, (and there's some wild animals thrown into the mix as well!)

We think you'll agree…

From the Photographer

Leah and Philip's DIY wedding was based on African earth tones and the love of the African Bush.

The bride and groom were wed under a giant fig tree. The guests were all driven in in typical land drovers, to this perfect ceremony site truly in the middle of no where in the bush.

The bridesmaids dresses were all hand made and each color chosen based on colors found in typical African scenery.

The baby's breath was a simple flower accent, the bride wanted to keep the flowers simple and not distract from the natural colors in Zimbabwe.

The groomsmen all worn typical khakis and simple rolled up white shirts. The table details were all carved wooden pieces made just for the wedding.

Wildlife surrounded the day, elephants, giraffe and a few monkeys here and there.

It was a typical hot African summer day, with a thunderstorm rolling in and out, but rained off in the distance and not a drop fell all day.

The greenery that surrounded this day was breathtaking, and in true simple African from, was stunning in it's own natural way.

From The Bride

My husband and I chose Chengeta Safari Lodge for our wedding venue because we both share a love for the outdoors. My husband is a professional hunter and guide so the African bush is his home.

We found this beautiful place just an hour or so away from our home and it felt as if we had been transported to another place entirely – tranquil, the lion roar in the morning, and the giant fig tree found in this beautiful open plain.

Our theme for the wedding was very simple… wood and white with the bridesmaids in different earth tones to blend with the African bush. We love the bush and wanted the colours to blend instead of contrast to the majestic setting we were in – to let the bush speak for itself.

We wanted the day to be simple – a day for Phil and I to celebrate joining our lives and sharing it with those that we are closest to – our friends and family.

We loved the simplicity of gathering under a giant fig tree, with loved ones as we celebrated our marriage.

We wanted our day to be fun, a celebration of two lives coming together and we didn’t want it to get lost in the details or colour choices.

When we look back on the day, on our memories and the photos that captured so many precious moments we know we made the right choice – simple elegance. It was a perfect day.”

From their NYC heartland, they present not just rings, but emblems of love crafted with ethics as steadfast as the diamonds themselves.

Frank Darling's ethos is simple: superb quality, honest pricing, and designs that truly resonate with the wearer. And while they provide an ocean of choices, we've dived deep and surfaced with our handpicked favorites. These are the sets that stand out, the pairings that promise not just a sparkle on the hand but a story to tell. Let's walk you through three of our favorite engagement and wedding ring pairings that caught our eyes and might just capture your hearts.

1.

A Diamond-Forward Stack

A harmonious blend of the Baguette Meringue band's diverse diamond cuts and the Chantilly Asscher engagement ring's bold center stone, creating a modern yet timeless elegance.

The Baguette Meringue band and Chantilly Asscher engagement ring come together for a diamond-forward look that's both timeless and trendy. The mix of baguette and round diamonds in the band pairs beautifully with the Asscher center stone, creating a visual dance of light and geometry. It's all about the contrast here: the smooth lines versus the dynamic sparkle.

What sets these rings apart is their craftsmanship, which brings out the best in the diamonds, making them shine their brightest. Remember, Frank Darling's dedication to personal choice means all their designs, including this one, can be crafted in yellow gold, white gold, or platinum. This flexibility ensures your ring will perfectly match your style and preference.

2.

Bezel Set Step Cuts for the Timeless Vintage Lover

The Half Briquette wedding band and Breezy Bezel Emerald engagement ring unite in a vintage-inspired pairing, showcasing sleek bezel settings and step-cut diamonds.

For those who adore vintage with a modern twist, the Half Briquette band and Breezy Bezel Emerald ring are like a dream from the past, made for today. The band's row of bezel-set baguettes is sleek and sophisticated, while the engagement ring's emerald-cut diamond stands out in a flush bezel setting.

This combo is all about harmony and history, blending a classic feel with contemporary style. The consistent bezel setting in both pieces not only looks sharp but also keeps those precious stones secure. Together, these rings stack up to create a unified look that's rich in history and style, perfect for someone who loves a story in every detail.

3.

Elegant Crescendo with the Symphony & Alto

The Symphony Oval paired with The Alto is where grace meets precision.

In this pairing, the Symphony Oval ring takes center stage with its elegant split shank and a standout oval diamond that captures attention without saying a word. It's the kind of ring that doesn't scream for attention but somehow always ends up in the spotlight. The Alto band plays its part perfectly, with marquise diamonds that build in size like a well-crafted crescendo. Each diamond is set to shine, making sure that this band isn’t just seen, it's remembered. When worn together, these rings strike the right note, offering a combination that's as perfect for daily wear as it is for life's biggest moments. It’s a set that says a lot without making a fuss, ideal for the one who appreciates subtlety with a touch of brilliance.

4.

A Contoured Split Shank Stack That's a Little More Alternative

Combining the unconventional Symphony Oval engagement ring again but this time with the Peaked Eternity wedding band, this pairing offers a bold, modern twist on traditional elegance.

Mixing the bold with the beautiful, the Symphony Oval engagement ring and Peaked Eternity wedding band are for those who walk on the unconventional side of love. The engagement ring's split shank leads to an oval diamond that's nothing short of stunning, offering a modern take on the classic solitaire. Pair that with the Peaked Eternity band, which contours perfectly around it, and you've got a set that feels destined to be. Both pieces share this warm yellow gold tone, enhancing the brilliance of their lab-grown diamonds. This stack isn't just a style statement; it's a testament to a love that's as unique and daring as the design itself.

Crafting Your Unique Love Story with Frank Darling

Diving into Frank Darling’s collection, we've seen a world where every style finds its match, from the effortlessly classic to the boldly contemporary. These pairings aren’t just easy on the eyes; they stand as a testament to Frank Darling's commitment to exceptional craftsmanship, fair pricing, and that unmistakable New York elegance.

Choosing that special ring is a journey of its own, one that goes beyond just the sparkle. It's about finding that piece that feels like a part of you. Frank Darling extends a personal invitation to join in the selection process, encouraging you to choose your diamond, making your ring a true reflection of your story. And if you’d rather leave it to the pros, they're more than ready to select a stone that's just as perfect as you’d imagined.

Rings by Marrow Fine

Diamonds, while iconic for their brilliance, are just one option among many for those dreaming of the perfect ring. For anyone looking to step away from tradition, seeking perhaps a more wallet-friendly or unique alternative, the world is full of beautiful gemstones ready to symbolize your engagement or wedding. Bridal Musings embraces the beauty of choosing a ring that mirrors the uniqueness of your love story.

Interestingly, the diamond's position as the default choice for engagement rings can be traced back to clever marketing by De Beers in the 1930s. Nowadays, a growing number of couples are exploring non-traditional paths, opting for what could be termed ‘diamond alternatives' or ‘anti-engagement rings.' These choices span from the timeless appeal of sapphires to the captivating charm of opals, each with its own distinct flair and personality.

While we've previously aligned various gemstones with personality types, this piece aims to sort the finest gemstones by their style and vibe. Let's get into it!

Classic Gems

Discover stones that have stood the test of time, offering elegance and enduring beauty. These gems, like sapphires and rubies, are perfect for a traditional yet stunning ring.

Sapphire

Blue Sapphire Three Stone Decorative Bridge by James Allen

Sapphires capture the essence of the ocean's depth with their enchanting blue hues, offering a stunning alternative to traditional diamond engagement rings. The first time you lay eyes on a sapphire ring, it's like looking into calm waters, where every shade of blue tells a tale of everlasting love. As a choice for diamond alternatives, sapphires bring a touch of personal style and uniqueness, making your engagement ring not just a symbol of commitment but also a reflection of individuality.

Key Info:

  • Origin & Folklore: Adored since ancient times, sapphires were believed to protect and bring good fortune to royalty.
  • Symbolism: Honesty, loyalty, purity.
  • Preferred By: Lovers of classic elegance and symbolism.
  • Style Alignment: From traditional to contemporary.
  • Physical Properties: Wide color range, including royal blue to pink and yellow; 9 on Mohs scale for hardness.
  • Common Cuts: Round, cushion, oval are popular.
  • Typical Settings: Solitaire, halo, cluster settings showcase their beauty.
  • Ideal Metal Pairings: Pairs well with white gold, platinum.
  • Price Range: Varied, with deep blues commanding higher prices.

  • Cons: High-quality sapphires can be costly, synthetic varieties may lack character, requires ethical sourcing considerations.

Ruby

White Gold Three Stone Round Ruby Engagement Ring by James Allen

A friend of mine, who's an absolute romantic at heart, chose a ruby for her engagement ring. She always says that its fiery red hue reminds her of the passion and intensity of her first dance with her now-husband. It's as if the stone itself is a frozen flame, a testament to their burning love.

Key Info:

  • Origin & Folklore: Esteemed since ancient times, rubies were believed to represent the heart and courage.
  • Symbolism: Passion, love, courage.
  • Preferred By: Those who adore vibrant, statement pieces with a classic touch.
  • Style Alignment: Fits well with both vintage and modern styles.
  • Physical Properties: Deep red color; scores 9 on Mohs scale, indicating excellent hardness.
  • Common Cuts: Oval, cushion, and round cuts are popular.
  • Typical Settings: Stunning in solitaire settings but also shines in halo and side-stone designs.
  • Ideal Metal Pairings: Yellow and rose gold bring out the warmth of rubies, while white gold or platinum offers a striking contrast.
  • Price Range: Can be pricey, especially for high-quality stones.
  • Special Significance: July birthstone; celebrates 15th and 40th anniversaries.
  • Imitations/Treatments: Synthetic rubies are common; natural stones may undergo heat treatment to enhance color.
  • Ethical Considerations: Source from ethical vendors to ensure responsible mining practices.
  • Pros: Vibrant color, symbolically rich, highly durable for everyday wear.
  • Cons: High-quality rubies can be expensive, require careful ethical sourcing, synthetic versions less valuable.

Emerald

Cathedral Star Engagement Ring

Emeralds bring to mind the rich greenery of a vibrant forest, offering a refreshing choice among alternatives to diamond engagement rings. The way light dances through their facets, showcasing shades of green, is both soothing and energizing. Wearing an emerald is like carrying a piece of nature with you, symbolizing growth and renewal on your shared path. This gemstone serves as a beautiful testament to life's continuous unfolding, making it a meaningful and unique selection for those looking to step away from the conventional.

Key Info:

  • Origin & Folklore: Valued since ancient civilizations, believed by the Incas and Egyptians to hold mystical power.
  • Symbolism: Growth, renewal, and prosperity.
  • Preferred By: Nature lovers and those who prefer a touch of classic sophistication.
  • Style Alignment: Complements vintage styles beautifully but also adds a pop to modern designs.
  • Physical Properties: Rich green color; ranks 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale.
  • Common Cuts: Emerald cut is iconic, but oval and round are also popular.
  • Typical Settings: Often found in halo settings or as the centerpiece in a three-stone setting.
  • Ideal Metal Pairings: Yellow gold enhances their warmth, while white gold or platinum highlights their cool tones.

  • Imitations/Treatments: Commonly treated for enhancing clarity; synthetic options are available.
  • Ethical Considerations: Ensure ethical sourcing due to environmental impact of mining.
  • Pros: Unique color, symbolically meaningful, versatile for various styles.
  • Cons: Requires careful handling due to lesser hardness, high-quality pieces can be costly, clarity enhancements common
