The Cliffside Views of this Santorini Destination Wedding Are Stunning

Whether you were a lucky guest or one of the two stylish grooms, this destination wedding on the cliffs of Santorini was an evening to remember.

When Tom & Scott got engaged on the beautiful, volcanic island in the Aegean Sea they instantly found their wedding destination (as a gal who also got proposed to in the Cyclades, I can understand!) They knew they just had to incorporate the iconic white cave houses & epic sunset into their wedding day, too.

Planning their celebration at Canaves Oia Sunday Suites they got everything a Santorini wedded couple could wish for: views, views, views! Both their ceremony & reception featured the most breathtaking backdrop of the island’s caldera, gifting the couple and their guests the most mind-blowing sunset one could imagine. (It’s true, I’ve seen it!)

Our Love Story

Tom and Scott met back in December 2014. After a few very exciting and fulfilling years together Scott proposed whilst on a romantic getaway in 2017 to the charming island of Santorini. It was during this time when the couple fell in love with the island with its traditional villages and pristine iconic scenery.

The proposal took place at sunset on the private panoramic balcony at Canaves Oia Suites surrounded by candles and red rose petals. They made a connection with the idyllic setting instantly so it was decided they would return the following year to tie the knot.

The Destination

We were amazed by the beauty of Santorini and the caldera view. We wanted to have an event that took inspiration from the natural beauty of the island, whilst keeping with the style and elegance of Oia and most importantly to celebrate with our closest friends and family.

The Planning

Our aim was to have everything run as smoothly as possible on the big day. Working closely with what can only be described as the ‘A-team’ of vendors, recommended by each other based on the strong relationships they have formed, we pulled together an image of our dream wedding which they expertly executed.

The Photography & Details

We knew that our wedding day would provide wonderful memories throughout our marriage. We took the time to plan and create special touches that would cater for our guests’ every wishes, such as hand-made paper fans and careful curated champagne and wine. Above all, we chose a photographer that we knew would capture both the joy and the intimacy of the event, providing pictures to enjoy for a lifetime.

We looked at a lot of wedding photographers in Santorini and felt that Nathan Wyatt not only captured the natural beauty of the island but still focused on the magical moments of the weddings he was shooting.

The Honeymoon

We had a minimoon in the wedding hotel (Canves Oia Sunday Suites) where we stayed in the honeymoon suite for one night and then the incredible master suite for the remaining stay.

The following year we went to the Maldives where we stayed at Kandima Resort. It was just magical – the white sand, blue ocean, exactly how you see in the Instagram pictures.

Advice to Other Couples

We used Pinterest in order to plan the design of our wedding which worked out really well as both Tom and I could add pictures to various boards (cake, design, outfits) and then share them with our designers and vendors.

All we can say is make sure you do your research when picking vendors and look for feedback online, we did this very meticulously and ended up with such fantastic vendors which make the whole process much easier and stress-free (to some extent).

Budgeting is always hard for a wedding but we laid out a plan in a spreadsheet and stuck to the end amount as best as we could although we a destination wedding things always crop up.
