Croatia is a country very dear to my heart. My father’s family is from (and still lives on) the island of Korcula in the Dalmatian Islands. I have no problem admitting my bias that when I receive a seaside Croatian wedding such as this, I’m pretty quick to want to share.

I’m always trying to tell my friends & clients what an incredible choice Croatia is as a wedding destination. Often much cheaper than other Mediterranean countries – from the venues, hotels, vendors & especially food & wine – your wedding can feature incredible Adriatic views & old-world authenticity. Even Jack & I considered getting married in my family’s home town of Blato (but decided it may be an outlandish trek for our lesser-traveled American friends).

For those who can make the journey to this Adriatic jewel, Janine & Christopher’s wedding is a beautiful blueprint to the easy-going seaside wedding. Taking place in Istria on Levan Island, this wedding features breezy beachy vibes & an entire family outfitted in the cutest casual wedding attire.

Our Love Story

We met on the Internet. Chris wrote me in November 2009, over StudiVZ. In December there was a first meeting and it quickly became clear that this is something for eternity.

The marriage proposal came 8 years later directly for Christmas. Planned totally cute. The whole family sat together, after dinner I got a gift, which I should open and jigsaw together, a picture of both of us appeared when we met. then a great box of chocolates, when I opened them, the sentence “Do you want to marry me” was printed on chocolates. Then flowers and the personal question and then it was official. We are getting married.

The Dress & Attire

Our wardrobe should not be pompous but still sweet and easy chic. So I decided on a rather simple, form-fitting dress with a small train and lace back. chris found himself in great chinos with a sporty short-sleeved shirt and suspenders. Light tones were important to us. We also asked our guests to dress in pastel shades. Our daughter wore an elegant ivory short jumpsuit.

The Location & Style

Our vision was a casual, fancy beach wedding. It shouldn’t be a princess or a castle. We wanted to dance barefoot in the sand. As it was planned by our agency, it was perfect for us. The ceremony took place on a ledge where you could feel and see the vastness of the sea. We took a boat to Levan Island to celebrate, it was totally prepared. It was a wonderful free atmosphere.

Favorite Moments

Our favorite event was the “walk to the altar”. The ceremony was the most exciting event, but it was all great, the photos, the food, the boat trip, the evening and the island.

The Planning

For us, it was clear that everything that was different from the standard will be more expensive. So we wanted to invest the money in this great memory. We had planned more money for location and wedding in Croatia. We didn’t want to invest so much in the clothes, it sounds strange now, but it doesn’t always have to be the wedding outfitter and especially for a beach wedding with sea breeze, it can be any clothing style that also fits. We didn’t want a wedding cake either, because it would be difficult to keep the cake in the heat anyway. We wanted a lot of fruit.

The Honeymoon

We pushed our honeymoon backwards. We would love to go on a bigger trip. We already had part of it on site, an entire week for the event with our friends and family. That was pretty fun.
