A Quintessential New York City Rooftop Wedding

Classic NYC Rooftop Wedding – Anna Gianfrate – Bridal Musings 3

As a former New Yorker (you might as well say, ‘forever New Yorker’) there are some institutions that really speak true to the city. In my humble opinion, no wedding is more quintessentially New York than one that ends with Joe’s pizza.

Sent to us by one of our favorite wedding photographers, Anna Gianfrate, this rooftop fête has everything we love about NYC weddings. Manhattan skyline views, city glamour, architectural details, freshly sliced lox and yes, hot slices of Joe’s.

Anna shared a bit about this classic New York wedding day:

“Laura & Greg got married on a beautiful day in September at Tribeca Rooftop with incredible views of the NYC skyline. The ceremony was set on the rooftop of the venue. The ceremony decor included a beautiful chuppa with white orchids and suspended petals. We took the portraits in the streets in Tribeca. Laura & Greg are foodies and had NYC Joe’s pizza as a late-night snack for their guests and Brooklyn-made Ample Hills ice cream.”

Our Love Story

Greg and Laura met at Santacon 2016 in Manhattan’s East Village at a bar called Pink’s Cantina. It was December 10, 2016. Each was wearing a homemade Santa and Mrs. Santa costume, respectively, that was more impressive than the flimsy $29.95 Amazon costumes found on hundreds of other Santas. Greg’s attire was anchored by a handsome red turtleneck. They had been introduced by mutual friends and struck up a lively conversation immediately. The conversation continued with an early dinner at a Chinese restaurant, Fat Buddha, a few blocks away. Laura was initially skeptical when Greg claimed he too was a vegetarian but when he ordered tofu she gave him the benefit of the doubt.

Their romance took off swiftly. They saw each other every weekend. Greg was finishing a master’s in public health at NYU while working part-time at Pfizer, doing epidemiology drug modeling. Laura was creating recipes for the online food delivery service Plated and already planning her startup Helaina Inc. Laura has a long-time passion for infant nutrition and wanted to support breastfeeding women who were challenged by their baby’s food needs as they faced post-maternity life. At that point in life, Greg had spent zero time thinking about infants but, as an undergraduate biology major, he was impressed with Laura’s knowledge of the chemical properties of food and the importance of certain nutrients and antibodies. Laura is a great cook and Greg happily became her sous chef.

In 2017, the couple lucked out by winning the New York City Marathon lottery, a bucket list item (Greg in particular is a big fan of bucket lists). They trained together for the November race. Throughout the summer they strategized long and short training runs, and dietary needs, and they respected each other’s bad-run days. Greg and Laura completed the drizzly, damp marathon side by side. Greg immediately said: Never again. Laura, who had unfortunately exacerbated a dancer’s knee injury, is more open to another marathon someday.

Greg proposed to Laura in a park overlooking the East River while walking their Lagotto puppy Fontina Prosciutto. Despite the dog’s meaty name, the couple remains committed vegetarians. The engagement ring uses a re-set diamond from his maternal grandmother’s ring. The two still love to cook together in their new Larchmont home (new to them), a Sears Craftsman vintage. At this point, Greg has several signature dishes while Laura serves as sous chef. He is happily underestimating the time and skill required for home projects
